Gunmen Shots Dead Village Head In Akwa Ibom

Unknown Gunmen were said to have killed the ,the village head of Abak Obong, in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Bassey Ikpaisong, has died from the gunshot injuries he sustained after an attack by some gunmen.
A family member, who did not want to be identified, told our correspondent that the chief died on Tuesday in a hospital despite efforts by doctors to save his life.

PUNCH Metro had reported that some gunmen, suspected to be cult members, killed two persons and injured the traditional ruler.

Residents said on Monday that the gunmen, numbering about 10, stormed the village on Saturday and attacked the palace of the village head.

A source had said the village head’s brother, Mr. Fred Ikpaisong, and a youth, Mr. Udotim Essien, were shot dead.

The traditional ruler, who sustained gunshot injuries, was reportedly rushed to the hospital where he died on Tuesday.

The family member said, “The traditional ruler died in the hospital around 2am. We had been worried about the extent of his gunshot injury, especially after he could no longer talk to anybody.”
