Graphic photo: Robbers remove ATM, kill three policemen

A robbery operation in Iwo, Osun State has claimed the lives of three policemen and one suspected armed robber on Tuesday evening.

The rubbers went to First Bank; Skye Bank and Sterling Bank, the three banks in the town, after first going straight to the police station in the town and attacked the men on duty.

They removed some of the automated teller machines at the banks but it was not clear if they took the machines away.

A resident said:

“Armed robbers attacked the banks in Iwo today. They came this evening and first went staring to the police station and attacked their men there. After that, they went to the area where the banks are located and carried out their operation.

“They killed three policemen and the police also killed one of the robbers. It is a terrible day here in Iwo.

“I think the banks were aware that they could be attacked because they have been closing by 12noon for the past two months or thereabout.”

It was also said that the rubbers were forced to flee and abandon one of the vehicles they used for the operation when the police reinforced.
