Charly Boy Marks June 12 With #OurMumuDonDo Protest In Lagos

Nigerian singer and activist Charles Oputa, better known by his stage name Charly Boy, led a protest in Lagos on Monday to express Nigerians’ frustrations with the current state of the country.

The protest came on the 24th anniversary of the 1993 election of Chief MKO Abiola, which was annulled by former military dictator Ibrahim Babangida.

The protesters, under the aegis of #OurMumuDonDo, began at the Oworonshoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge and proceeded through Ikorodu Road towards Maryland.

Charly Boy and his #OurMumuDonDo movement announced the protest last week, urging young men to show up to the event topless. He described the protest at a pro-masses demonstration aimed at rallying against the government’s indifference towards the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

“The quality of life of the Nigerian people has been demoted to a pitiable and decrepit state by criminal politicians and insatiable looters of the wealth of the common man,” organizers of the protest said. “The shared humanity of the Nigerian people has been eternally ridiculed by national miscreants in positions of power.”

“The thieving class in power has denied the Nigerian people of quality life through their endless plundering of national wealth. We know our silence has enabled corruption and impunity in governance but we will no longer sit and watch while our lives and future is looted by the sons and daughters of Jezebel in power,” said #OurMumuDonDo.
